What is the Flesch-Kincaid readability score?
Flesch-Kincaid is a formula that measures text complexity. The Reading Ease score (0-100) indicates how easy text is to read—higher is easier. The Grade Level indicates the US school grade needed to understand the text.
How is keyword density calculated?
Keyword density is the percentage of times a word or phrase appears compared to the total word count. We show 1-word, 2-word, and 3-word phrases (n-grams) ranked by frequency.
Can I upload Word documents?
Yes! You can upload .docx files directly. The text is extracted in your browser using the mammoth.js library. Formatting is removed but all text content is preserved.
What are the social media character limits?
Different platforms have different limits: Twitter/X (280 characters), LinkedIn posts (3,000), Instagram captions (2,200), Facebook posts (63,206), and more. We show green/yellow/red indicators.
Will my text be saved if I close the browser?
If you have autosave enabled in settings, your text is saved to browser cookies and will be restored when you return. You can disable this in the global settings panel.

About Word Counting

Word counting is essential for writers, students, marketers, and anyone working with text. Whether you're writing an essay with a word limit, optimizing content for SEO, or crafting the perfect tweet, knowing your exact word and character count matters.

Flesch-Kincaid Scores

Developed by Rudolf Flesch and J. Peter Kincaid, these formulas measure text readability. The Reading Ease score ranges from 0-100 (higher = easier), while Grade Level indicates the US school grade needed to understand the text.

Keyword Density

Keyword density helps SEO specialists optimize content. It measures how often specific words or phrases appear. Optimal density varies by context, but 1-3% is often recommended for primary keywords.

Time Estimates

Reading time is based on 200 words per minute (average adult). Speaking time uses 150 WPM (presentation pace). These help content creators plan articles, speeches, and videos.
